Chapter Thirty: Harmony
Harmony relapsed into another state of depression once returning to Houston. Her appetite was zilch and she was rapidly losing weight, in spite of her motherâs attempts to force her to eat. Harmony lost interest in all the things she once enjoyed such as singing, watching television and interacting on social media along with hanging out with Auden. She opted to take all of her spring semester courses online so she wouldnât have to leave the house and was now glad that she decided not to pledge the sorority, a decision she and Auden both made once landing the opportunity with Gemini. They figured the performance would open up more doors for them and they wouldnât have any time to commit to pledging or the sorority as a whole. Harmony mustered up what little strength and energy she had to focus for a few hours and complete the assignments before submitting them to the course instructors via email.
Her parents tried persuading her to attend spiritual counseling sessions with Pastor Healey, but once again Harmony wanted no parts of church or communication with God. Sheâd been through hell since starting college, with the attempted rape and then Geminiâs shooting. Was she being punished for some unrepented sin? Sheâd always considered herself a kind and giving person. She was a virgin for goodness sake! So just what had she done to invoke Godâs wrath and have Him turn his face from her?
Harmony spent her days wallowing in bed with the television on mute. She would sometimes play games online with the Galaxy Note Gemini had given her for Christmas, which served as a painful reminder of the fallen star. She tried her best to avoid coming across any news about the shooting via the internet or television. She was fearful of learning of Geminiâs demise.
One day something in her just said enough is enough and she decided to make an effort to pull herself up from the pit of depression. She forced herself to get out of bed, comb her hair and get dressed. Little by little, she began to eat again. Her digestive system initially protested to the intake of food but she eventually regained her strength. She resolved to take things one day at a time. Her emotions were badly wounded and she realized only God could aid in her healing. She repented for turning her back on Him and went on a fast. She prayed daily, watching plenty of TBN and Daystar. Her favorites were Bishop Lyndall Chambers, Joyce Meyer, T.D. Jakes and Creflo Dollar. Harmony would begin and end her day with inspirational programming. She now looked forward to spending time with God as she renewed her relationship with him, as well as renewing her mind.
âYouâre looking better these days.â Her mother commented one evening towards the end of January as they prepared dinner together.
âIâm feeling a lot better.â Harmony admitted. âI still donât feel totally like myself again but I know God is still doing a work in me.
